Aron thanks fans, says work underway for future

POSTED: Thursday, May 31, 2012, 12:35 PM

Sixers CEO Adam Aron, who has interacted with fans all season on Twitter, has been silent since the season ended with Saturday night's loss in Game 7 to Boston.

He returned today with a message to Sixers fans about the season and the future.

"Sixers fans, a few days after season end, I wanted to reach out and THANK YOU once more for your embracing new owners and team this year.  Another thank you to all our sixers players this year. Some incredible highs, and lows, in a roller coaster but fun exciting season.

"All of Philadelphia including us within the team, knows we still need pieces to be a permanent contender in NBA. Hard work this summer... Even so much progress was made this year. Winning record in regular season. "One and done" in the playoffs No More! Sixers fanbase growing.

"NBA rules do not allow me to talk about our interest in players by name, but work well under way to think about draft, trades, free agency. "Far from easy in NBA to land right free agent or consummate great trade. It will be interesting to see how much progress is made off-season."

Class move! This ownership group gets it and it's only a matter of time and some luck, too, until a championship comes their way. After years of the Comcast/Snider indifference towards the team, it is refreshing to see ownership court the fans again. Not since the early Pat Croce years has this team seen this enthusiasm. Good luck and best wishes in the off season!

Yes, there is important work to be done. I firmly believe that the Sixers should proceed as if they were swept by Rose, Noah, and the Bulls in Round One.

Agree with the Rat. I was impressed by the "fanlike" ownership team in its trial run of condensed season...Reaching out seems like the correct thing to do as a fan base is aggressively recruited with inspired play on the court...Don't rest on your laurels,as upgrades are necessary...You're in the ultimate position to drive this economical Greyhound and turn it into a Madden Cruiser...Smiles all around.

Please amnesty brand. i know there are a lot of people saying to hold on to him but there is no trade value for a guy you hope can give you 13 and 8 and you'll no doubt have to take back a junk contract to make it work.

After years of Snider's ignorance, this is indeed refreshing. Thank you Adam for giving a $h!t.

The NBA is garbage. Who wants to pay big bucks to see high school level talent?

I love the words "permanent contender" in his quote. That's the kind of team Philly deserves. I remember those days from the mid 70's to mid 80's... when I was growing up. It made me a lifelong fan. That's what you need to do to make the kids of today into the same. It's a smart business decision and I'm glad to see we finally have owners who understand that.

Bear: congratulations on getting Cooney to answer 10 of your questions during his chat, a new record for Philly.com. Perhaps time to ease back on the caffeine.

Since highly improbable we get Bynum, Howard or Williams, Ersan Ilysova would be my #1 target this year. He is 25, good rebounder, great 3 point shot, creates matchup problems, and unrestricted free agent. Would add to the core of youthful talent.

Then try to get Gasol and change from Lakers for Iguodala and Young OR Al Jefferson for Iguodala OR Rudy Gay and change for Iguodala and Young.

Amnesty Brand, let Lou walk, trade Iggy for R. Gay, draft Moultrie at #15, and then use the rest of the cap space (from Brand, Lou, Nocioni, etc. coming off) for a rugged, athletic 4 who can score (Humphries?) and the midlevel for a dead-eye shooter off the bench (Redick?). Personally, I would keep Hawes and Meeks around for quality depth, but only at a price, or unless they can use that money to further upgrade to one of the needs above.
