Agent: Kwame Brown to sign with Sixers; Silas has concussion

Kwame Brown's agent said Friday that the center has agreed to sign with the Sixers. Brown, who played for Sixers coach Doug Collins in Washington, would fill the Sixers' big-man void.

The agent, Mark Bartelstein, also told Yahoo Sports that the deal was for two years and $6 million.

Brown, 30, averaged 6.3 points and 6.3 rebounds  in 22.4 minutes last season for Golden State. He has averaged 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in his 11-year NBA career.

He was drafted first overall by Washington in 2001. He has played for Washington, the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis, Detroit, Charlotte and Golden State.

The Sixers announced the re-signing of center Spencer Hawes. The team did not disclose the terms of the contract. Hawes has played 118 games (110 starts) and averaged 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.01 blocks in 22.4 minutes. He shot 47.4 percent from the floor.

In other Sixers news, Xavier Silas was injured at the team's final summer league game in Orlando on Friday. The initial reports indicate that the team is concerned that injury could be a skull fracture. Silas has been sent to an Orlando hospital. The Sixers announced that Silas suffered a concussion and possible frontal bone skull fracture.

Also, Yahoo reported that Elton Brand has been picked up off amnesty waivers by the Dallas Mavericks. The Sixers used their amnesty clause on Brand last week.

Yes, Brown stinks, but that is the point. Lavoy Allen got a better deal and the Sixers traded a lottery protected pick for Moultrie. They stink next year, they keep the pick. It's a short contract that comes off the books in two years, when the Sixers will have a lot of cap flexibility.

Not the move I was waiting for. But more importantly, I hope Xavier Silas is ok. Fractured skull?? That doesn't sound good.

Glad to see that they aren't just throwing money and years at players just because they have it. I am completely fine with all the moves they've made to sign guys to 1 and 2 year deals so far. This will keep the cap manageable and hopefully allow them to make a splash next offseason.

They paid him too much. Who was even courting him? He can't shoot FT n has short arms but he is easily tougher than Hawes and Vuc, who may end up in the D League this yr

Bartlestein's blowing smoke, and I'm sure only the first season is guaranteed...since he's Nick Young's agent, I'm wondering if this was the "back end" of some package deal...I still can't believe Nick Young took a one year deal 6 days into the Free Agent process....Anyway, start checking out the 2013 prospects....I'm partial to James Michael McAdoo!

Sad to say, but he plays harder than Hawes, who will have the distinction of creating an entirely new NBA position .... power (less) forward.

The Sixers gave a better deal to Lavoy Allen. They traded a lottery protected pick to Miami for Moultrie. Now do you get it?

I like what theyre doing everywhere - younger, bigger and more athletic by far. Sixers have the feel of a team that is moving up and closer to being a contender. You have to give credit to the organization, Collins and new ownership.

Based on what I know of Brown, and looking at his stats, it looks like he's been injured frequently, playing more than 50 games only twice in the last 7 years. I'm not sure I'm okay with that - it seems like a pretty penny to pay if he's only able to play half a year. What he brings (toughness, size) is what the Sixers need - just not sure if this guy will be able to provide it on a consistent basis. And I'm not sold on Brown-Thad-Lavoy being our starting power forward. Good bench filler, 15-20 minute contributor type if healthy.
