2 candidates, 2 caricatures

Donald Trump, bless his heart, has given cartoonists so many opportunities to draw him that we blew through the initial "who is he?" phase, barely paused for the "make it look like him" phase and are well into the "deep distortion" phase. Still, there's always something new. In the last debate, his orange tanning-salon face contrasted with his white tanning-salon-protected eyes jumped out at me.

John Kasich is still at "who is he?" Level 1. He is the cartoonist's nightmare: nice-looking, middle-aged white guy with no really distinguishing features. My drawing, done at the same debate as the Trump one, shows my stiffness.

Unintentionally, though, the contrast between the two caricatures captures the contrast between the two candidates. One is a preening, flamboyant, self-created showman. The second is a modest, boring but reliable-looking grownup. Their looks seem to reflect their characters. We'll see which the voters choose.
