Will and Jada Pinkett Smith separate! Or not

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2011, 10:40 AM

UPDATE: A reporter’s nightmare

The Will Smith-Jada Pinkett Smith story (or non-story, depending  on your perspective) continues to haunt Gossip News Professionals.

In Touch Weekly reported on Tuesday that the Smiths have decided to separate. In an oft-quoted retort via Twitter (generated by twitter.com/theofficialtrey), Will's son Trey (by Will's first wife, Sheree Zampino), vociferously denied ITW's claims.

ITW now says an Impostor was using that Twitter account, which has since been suspended.

Sadly, we were duped also and we cited the suspect tweet.

The Smiths continue to deny there’s anything wrong in their marriage.

Meanwhile, an ITW spokesperson tells us that the glossy tabloid is sticking with its initial story.

------------------------

There is terror, fear, horror, shame and grief across the land this morning following a glossy tabloid report that Will Smith, 42, hero to all Philadelphians, and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, 39, are kaput. No More. Over. Finished.

In Touch Weekly cites An Unnamed Source, who claims the Smiths have agreed to separate after 13 years of marriage. (Reason? That Jada allegedly had an affair with her pal Jennifer Lopez’ former soulmate, Marc Anthony.)

No reason has been given for the alleged split-up.

Will reportedly spent this weekend partying in Miami before heading up to Philly to present the Pioneer Award to Lady B at a show Sunday night at the Dell East.

Philly Radio station The Beat of Philly (100.3-FM) reports on its website that Will attended the event with An Unknown Woman. “The woman in question is about 5’8″, has straight hair and appears to be a light-skinned African-American,” the station reports.

No official statement from either Will or Jada.

Jada’s rep, Karynne Tencer, did make this snide remark when TMZ contacted her for comment in the wee hours on Tuesday morning. “What? In Touch said that?” she said. “I know nothing about this ... Lord. I'm going back to bed.”

Later, she denied related rumors that Jada and Marc Anthony have been stepping out. "Everything about Jada and Marc Anthony is false," she said.

And reports the Smith marriage is over? "In regard to Jada and Will, I will not comment on their personal lives," Tencer added.

Meanwhile, Will's son Trey, from Will's first marriage, tweets, "Did #WillandJada split? No they did NOT split! False information ... its not true RETWEET!!! Everyone can think what they want ... even if its not true."

Denials also come from two anonymous sources (yet more unnamed insiders!) who tell RadarOnline there’s no truth to the break-up reports.

The first, identified only as “a family member,” says, “No way are they splitting up. They are totally together and are not separating.”

The second, identified by RadarOnline as an insider who “works very closely with Smith at his production company, Overbrook Entertainment,” tells the gossip site, “The rumors are not true. Not sure who the source was but they are wrong. All is good in their relationship.”

So basically, the Smiths news is non-news. It's all a bunch of hooey

But what if it is true? If true, the break-up will be a stain not only upon the nation, but to the very institution of marriage. After all, the Smiths were supposed to be the perfect couple.

Will and Jada consistently are held up by the media as that impossible of all things, a perfect couple. Theirs was supposed to be “the greatest celebrity love story,” as one blog called it two years ago.

In 2008 Will told Ellen DeGeneres he and Jada would never get divorced. “What I found is divorce just can’t be an option … It’s merely that simple,” he said. “And I think that’s the problem with L.A. There are so many options. So a huge part of the success for Jada and I is that we just removed the other options.”

Earlier this month Architectural Digest ran a feature on the couple’s perfect (?!) life in their perfectly extravagant 25,000 square foot mansion in Calabasas, Calif.

As People.com noted in its report on the architecture mag’s report, “Will told Architectural Digest the idea behind the house's circuitous floor plan was ‘to create an infinite cycle that represented what Jada and I hoped for our love’.”

Sorry, thought they were a great couple, don't want to judge, but I think she was the one to end it.

So what if they do, so what if they don't. SO WHAT. Calling him a hero is proof positive that the term hero is thrown around way too loosely.

Will Smith, hero to "ALL" Philadelphians????? Please don't speak for me! He's no hero of mine. The real heroes are those who are putting their lives on the line to keep us free. That's a hero, not this clown.
