Ramos to be Philly SRC chair; Pritchett interim chair
Kristen Graham
Gov. Corbett has announced he will name Pedro Ramos chair of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. Ramos, a former school board member, is awaiting confirmation by the state Senate; Corbett nominated him to fill a vacant SRC seat earlier this year. The announcement is not a surprise - Ramos was widely expected to become the next SRC chair, and speculation increased after former chairman Robert L. Archie Jr. resigned in September.
Until Ramos is seated, new SRC member Wendell Pritchett will serve as interim chair, a Corbett spokesman said in a news release. Pritchett was recently appointed by Mayor Nutter. He'll attend his first SRC meeting later today.
I'll be live Tweeting the meeting; check back here for updates, or follow me @newskag. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Comment removed.- usually i agree with a lot of what you say but you are totally wrong on this one. if anyone is qualified for this job it's pedro. he has a track recored of actually putting children first. he is a proven leader not only in the business world, but also in the educational field as president of the school board while hornbeck and valas was in office. he is very progressive in his thinking and will not be swayed by politics, even though he has to play them as the position dictates. he is a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better choice than the previous two src chairs. without question!

Recycling is alive and well in Philly. Politically correct pick to sooth the masses but just another same old-same old name from the connected bench of tired hacks. jimmymack
Ramos may be my "paisano", but he's just too closely connected to the political mess that turned the SRC into a waste of taxpayers' money. Why not find someone new? DonQ
Come on Inquirer and Daily News you are the only ones who can blow this up outside of the FBI. Why are there never any teachers on the SRC? Who is the voice of the students? All agree: same law firms representing the same interests: bleed the heck out of the cash cow known as the School District. boroughboy
Comment removed.- And here it is, a new boxcar added to the corruption train. With absolutely no public input, Corbett has just handed an SRC slot to the corrupt and criminal Pedro Ramos. Open mafia government marches on, and don't forget to notice that the republican criminal Corbett has named a criminal democrat here too. Left and right working together to steal from you; same corrupt garbage with a new coat of paint.
Ramos has worked at all the big political firms including Ballard, Blank Rome and current position at Trujillo Rodgrequez (strange that has been partner at each). Currently Managing Principal at "One Point Public and Private Solutions," which is a shell for their law firm. Let's see if (or how much) the School District or City pays that firm. boroughboy

Finally the 66 other counties in PA are having some fun with Phl. After 20 years of Fumo, Perzel, the community's choice Dwight "give me the dough" Evans and the rest of the Phl Demo caucus, who can blame them. axxell
You need to define what you mean by "activist". I didn't know that includes those who sponge off the district. CrotchetyOldMan
Same old, same old...
