Public pleads with Council: Schools need money

Today, it's Round 2 of the Philadelphia School District's budget hearing before City Council. It's the public's turn to weigh in, and Council chambers are packed with people who want to speak about the district's "empty shell" budget, which requires $216 million in new funds just to keep the status quo. With no new money, the budget would require 1,000 layoffs, class sizes of up to 41, and other unthinkable measures.

I'll be livetweeting - follow along.
