Deputy schools superintendent resigns

Philadelphia School District Deputy Superintendent Paul Kihn has resigned his position, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Philadelphia School District Deputy Superintendent Paul Kihn has resigned his position, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Kihn, who was Superintendent William R. Hite Jr.'s second-in-command, has been with the district for three years. He was paid $210,000, and is leaving to spend more time with his family, who are moving back to Washington, D.C.

Kihn came to the district from the global consulting firm McKinsey & Co.

His departure comes amid a time of change in Hite's administration. Chief Financial Officer Matthew Stanski's last day is Wednesday. Stanski is leaving to move closer to his family in Maryland, and will have a similar school finance job with the Montgomery County public schools.

District spokesman Fernando Gallard said Kihn's position will not be filled. As the district moves to execute Hite's strategic plan, it is shifting resources into "learning networks," or groups of schools organized by geography or type, such as schools in need of overhaul or innovative schools.
