Lincoln High students accused of setting fire

POSTED: Tuesday, October 25, 2011, 12:36 PM

Three Lincoln High School students were detained by Philadelphia School District police after allegedly setting a fire this morning.

The students are accused of starting a paper fire in a doorway at Austin Meehan Middle School, which is adjacent to Lincoln’s campus on Ryan Avenue in the Northeast.  The incident occurred at about 10 a.m.

There were no injuries and no major property damage, according to Fernando Gallard, a district spokesman.

Gallard said the students would be suspended and, pending an investigation, further action might be taken against them.

& these are some of kids that the PSD spent 70 million dollars (that they didn't have) to build a brand new state-of-the-art school for? Should have kept the old school & just got a new student body. Yet another example of our wasted tax dollars & the broken Philly School District.

Probably stupid kids doing stupid things for some reason that sounded really funny/interesting/brave/cool/etc. at the time. It's what kids do. And before anyone goes off saying "not my kid" please know your kid did/does stupid stuff and just didn't get/hasn't yet gotten caught. It's part of growing up.

This is why we need to get rid of no child left behind. Schools can not be accountable for teaching students who are more interested in cutting class and lighting fires. And some people actually want to tie teacher salaries to these students test scores.
