South Philly Church Burglary

Police are asking for the public's help in a Church burglary.

South Philly Church Burglary

When the caretaker of St. Simon the Cyrenian Church in Point Breeze arrived for work early Monday morning, he found the building's side door pried open and the Church ransacked.

Somebody had made off with an assortment of bronze church ornaments, collection plates, crosses, candle holders, and some cash, said Captain Laurence Nodiff, commander of South Detectives.

The thief or thieves even stole the church's water meter, probably looking to sell it as scrap, Nodiff said.

Investigators are asking witnesses, neighborhood scrap metal dealers, and business owners who might have security cameras near the 1400 block of South 22nd Street to call South Detectives at 215.686.3013
