Newborn found dead in N. Philly

POSTED: Saturday, October 22, 2011, 4:34 PM

Police are searching for the mother of a newborn baby that was found dead and wrapped in a blanket on a porch in North Philadelphia this morning.

The baby girl was found shortly before 9:30 a.m. today on the porch of a house on the 4900 block of N. Marvine Street, in the city's Logan section. The infant was deceased and still had the umbilical cord attached to it, police said. There was no initial word on the cause of death.

Cops are concerned about the well-being of the baby's mother, who they fear might be in need of medical care. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251.

How many adoptive parents would want this child? Hope the mother is imprisoned for life!

and was the baby still born? And was the Mom 13 or 14 and trying to hide pregnancy and birth from her own family? Did Dad leave the baby on the porch or Grand father? All of which have happened in this city in the past multiple times. .... Stupid rush to judgement based on limited details from the police and, as we all know, the very limited reporting by the Inqy/DN alleged reporters.

The sad thing is that Pennsylvania has a safe haven law that allows a parent to give up her child if they are less than 28 days old without worry of criminal prosecution as long as the infant is not physically abused. This law should be more widely advertised to the public.

I agree with mindstorms. The little one never had a chance. I (51 yr old woman) would have taken her in...at least given her a chance.
    God Bless her little heart.

Forgive them? You kidding me? The whole family should be prevented from breeding!

I hope you haven't bred. You sure aren't living up to your icon here (Ben Franklin).

Young girls have sex and get pregnant. We should be educating them about using birth control. The men who "knock them up" don't care what happens after they have sex with them. Do you think the guy who got her pregnant took the time to use a condom? Should we have billboards placed in areas of the city to offer help in these situations? Most women in lower income areas of the city have no idea where to go for resources that would help them when dealing with unwanted pregnancies.

Who cares about the mother's medical condition and well-being?! There's no excuse whatsoever for her dumping her new-born baby onto a porch and walking away.

you were there when the baby was born? Is there better coverage at another site? .... Try engaging your brain before running your mouth.... The only info presented is that dead newborn was found on a porch.

Years ago, someone left a newburn kitten in my father's porch. My sister found it, fed it milk with a medicine dropper, and eventually raised it. It was my dad's pet for many years.
It makes my blood boil that this baby girl was given less of a chance to live than a stray cat.

would not have mattered if any law was advertised- the mother probably couldn't read it anyway.
