After coaching his final game at Lansdale Catholic, Jim Algeo walks across the field to congratulate the West Catholic players and coaches.

It was a tearful and emotional goodbye Monday night for longtime Lansdale Catholic coach Jim Algeo. The 75-year-old coached for the final time in a 40-8 loss to Catholic League Class AA rival West Catholic.

Algeo's family, including his wife of 52 years, Mickey, was on hand at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Neumann-Goretti senior Jimmy Kerrigan has orally committed to play baseball at Temple.

Kerrigan, an outfielder, helped lead the Saints to a 22-1 record and the Catholic League title last season.

From the cleanup spot, Kerrigan batted .500 with 28 RBIs and 24 runs. He was an Inquirer third-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection.

St. Joseph's Prep junior guard Steve Vasturia will announce his decision to play college basketball at Notre Dame in a 2:30 p.m. Tuesday press conference in the school's library.

Tony Sagona, Vasturia's AAU coach with the Jersey Shore Warriors, revealed the news early Tuesday afternoon.

Prep coach Speedy Morris said Vasturia, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound combination guard, also visited Boston College, Georgetown, Northwestern, Villanova, and Temple.

St. Joseph's Prep basketball guard Steve Vasturia will announce his college commitment Tuesday in a 2:30 p.m. press conference in the school's library.

It has been reported on 247sports.com that the 6-foot-4, 180-pound junior will commit to Notre Dame.

Vasturia has 20-plus scholarship offers, including the Fightin Irish, Georgetown, Boston College, and Northwestern, among others.

The Catholic League Class AA regular-season finale Monday night between West Catholic and Lansdale Catholic will now be played at 7:45 at Plymouth Whitemarsh High.

Norristown's nonleague game versus District 3's Wyomissing, scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, has been cancelled. The field at Daniel Boone High is still unplayable.

The game will not be made up.
