Behind a two-hit effort from junior righthander Bobby Wittemann, Central Bucks South blanked Council Rock South, 2-0, Thursday in the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA baseball final at Immaculata University.
An error opened the door to C.B. South's two second-innings runs. Jon Mullin, the squad's No. 9 hitter, delivered a two-out, two-run double down the the left-field line.
Wittemann struck out five and walked none. He threw 81 pitches, with 57 for strikes.

Germantown Academy's Kiernan McCloskey, a 6-foot-1 junior, has orally committed to play basketball at Lehigh.
Last season, McCloskey averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds while helping the Patriots claim their 14th consecutive Inter-Academic League championship.
The first-team all-Inter-Ac selection also considered Penn, Princeton and Lafayette, among others.

Penn Charter's Kenny Koplove, a senior shortstop and pitcher, has been named Gatorade baseball player of the year for Pennsylvania.
On the mound, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound righthander went 9-2 with a 2.22 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings. He walked 22.
At the plate, Koplove, who is bound for Duke, batted .340 wiith 23 runs, 20 RBIs, 6 doubles, and 2 triples. He was 12-for-13 on stolen-base attempts.

A throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning opened the door for Neumann-Goretti to capture its second straight Catholic League championship and third in four seasons.
The Saints, riding the arm of Joey Gorman for seven innings and overcoming four errors, eked out a 5-4, eight-inning win over La Salle on Tuesday at Widener University.
Pinch-runner Joe Lolio, running on the pitch, scored from first base on Joe Kinee's sacrifice bunt toward third base. Mike Piscopo's throw across the diamond skipped past first baseman Chris Melillo, rolling all the way to the fence and allowing Lolio to score.

Play in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools baseball tournament has been suspended due to rain.
On Saturday, in one semifinal, Malvern Prep topped Chestnut Hill Academy, 10-0, in five innings. The semifinal between Haverford School and Penn Charter was stopped in the bottom of the fourth due to the weather, with the Fords leading, 3-0.
Malvern and CHA played at Perkiomen School; Haverford School and Penn CHarter were playing at nearby Upper Perkiomen High.
