Junior quarterback Kyle Shurmur and La Salle open the 2013 campaign against North Penn Saturday night at Plymouth Whitemarsh High.

Here are some Week 1 football games to watch in Southeastern Pennsylvania:

Friday

Martin Luther King at Simon Gratz, 6. King has a trio of Division I-A recruits: two-way tackle Dontae Angus (6-6, 320), quarterback Joseph Walker, and wide receiver and outside linebacker Delane Hart.

Unionville at Garnet Valley, 7. The rivalry between former Southern Chester County League members is worth the price of admission.

Council Rock South at Central Bucks South, 7. Golden Hawks defensive tackle Eric Gallo will spend most of the evening trying to chase down Titans speedster Josh Adams.

Haverford High at Council Rock North, 7. Two of the area's elite playmakers, Fords running back Kevin Leyden and Indians QB Brandon McIlwain, showcase their skills.

Souderton at Pottsgrove, 7. Without nose guard Ricky Young, who is out with a broken leg suffered in training camp, the Indians will try to slow down the Falcons' spread-option attack.

Perkiomen Valley at Plymouth Whitemarsh, 7. Rasaan Stewart and the Vikings are out to avenge last year's 20-14 loss to the Colonials.

Wissahickon at William Tennent, 7. Former Pennridge defensive coordinator Bob Rosenberger makes his debut with the Panthers. He is a 1991 Tennent graduate.

Emmaus at Pennridge, 7. Ex-Rams boss Randy Cuthbert reluctantly returns to Poppy Yoder Field. Jeff Hollenbach begins his second stint as Pennridge coach.

Saturday

Archbishop Ryan vs. Cardinal O'Hara, at Ocean City (N.J.), 11. Key for the Red Raiders is keeping J.T. Blyden and the Lions from consistently breaking off long gains.

West Catholic at Haverford School, 11:30. The Burrs have a solid rusher in Greg White; the Fords counter with Philip Poquie, who was slowed by injury last season.

George Washington at Springside Chestnut Hill, 12. Washington has a stwlart lineman in senior Zaire Hollerway (6-2, 275); SCH counters with sophomore Darian Bryant (6-6, 335).

Downingtown East at Frankford, 12. The Cougars, still smarting from a first-round playoff loss to Wissahickon, meet the defending Public League Class AAAA champs at Large and Dyre.

Malvern Prep vs. Roman Catholic, at Maxwell Field in Wildwood, 12. Malvern's Troy Gallen and Roman Catholic's Dimetri Kelly are two of the speedier halfbacks in the area.

North Penn vs. La Salle, at Plymouth Whitemarsh, 7. La Salle leads this series, which is marked by fierce tackling, by 4-1. The Explorers won, 20-7, last year in Lansdale.
