Episcopal Academy's Evan Butts, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior tight end and defensive end, has committed to play football at Virginia.

He was offered a scholarship by the Cavaliers halfway through Saturday's one-day camp at the school.

"I immediately had the sense that Virginia was the right place for me," said the 17-year-old from Springfield, Delaware County. "I'm beyond excited about it."

Butts, projected to be a tight end and possible long snapper at Virginia, also had scholarship offers from Army, Boston College, Navy, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Rutgers, and Temple, among others. He had planned to visit Boston College next.

He was joined on the visit to Charlottesville by his father, Rich. "We both had a good feeling about things," Evan Butts said. "And the rest of my family, including my mom, were also on board with it."

Last season, while helping Episcopal to a 10-0 overall record and 5-0 mark in the Inter-Academic League, Butts was a first-team all-league pick on both sides of the ball.
