Hoops: Chester and Neumann-Goretti to clash at Neumann University

The site for the much-anticipated nonleague showdown between Southeastern Pennsylvania boys' basketball powers Neumann-Goretti and Chester has been finalized. Finally.

The Saints, who have claimed three straight PIAA Class AAA state championships, and Clippers, winners of two consecutive Class AAAA titles and eight overall, will square off Feb 10 at Neumann University in Aston. The game is set for 6 p.m.

It will be the first meeting between the teams. "We used to play them during the summer when I started coaching here," said Carl Arrigale, Neumann-Goretti's 15th-year coach.

Arrigale said his focus is not on Chester, but on his squad's run at a fifth straight Catholic League championship. "I can't be worried about it right now," he said. "I guess it will be exciting when it gets here. I'm sure they feel the same way about it."

Neumann-Goretti is spurred by 6-foot-4 senior forward John Davis, a Towson commit, and 6-3 junior wing guard Ja'Quan Newton. Chester is led by 6-7 senior swingman Rondae Jefferson, an Arizona commit.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance at the respective schools.
