A mix of determination and varied schemes derailed a high-scoring offense.

Pennridge, switching things up on defense, held previously potent Central Bucks South to one touchdown and triumphed, 21-10,

Friday night in a Suburban One League Continental Conference clash at Poppy Yoder Field.

"We went away from the man-to-man that we had been playing the last few weeks," Rams coach Randy Cuthbert said. "We went with a lot of zone packages. All night long, the kids did a great job."

Titans sophomore tailback Josh Adams, who came in averaging nearly 200 yards rushing, was limited to 118 yards on 24 carries.

"Guys were keyed in and doing their job," Pennridge senior end John Dubyk said.

In addition to Dubyk, the headliners were tackles Shane Kraynik and Mike Supp, linebackers Kyle Bigam and MacKenzie Crawford, and backs Jeremy Xander and Micah Stutzman.

Cuthbert credited defensive coordinator Bob Rosenberger, a former standout at William Tennent, with coming up with a plan to slow down Adams and company.

The Rams, with four-time defending league champ North Penn waiting in the wings, improved to 6-1 and 3-0. C.B. South, which came in ranked No. 4 in Southeastern Pennsylvania, fell to 6-1 and 3-1.

The Titans were likewise stymied in the air. Senior quarterback John Pileggi converted 13 of 27 passes for 145 yards,

On 53 rushing attempts, Pennridge totaled 349 yards. Junior halfback Mike Class carried 28 times for 223 yards. His 70-yard TD burst on the final play of the third quarter all but sealed the victory.

With 33 seconds left in the first half, after C.B. South's drive stalled at the Rams' 11, Evan Stahl booted a 28-yard field goal. The Rams led, 14-10, at the break.

Pennridge scored on its opening two possessions. Class capped the first, a nine-play series, with a 30-yard TD catch. Coming out of the backfield, he gained a step on Paul Weeks along the left sideline and hauled in Alex Krivda's throw.

Early in the second quarter, Bigam's 3-yard burst around left end made it 14-0. The nine-play drive was highlighted by a pair of Class runs, for 36 and 12 yards, and John Kim's 26-yard gain.

In the first half, Class netted 87 yards on 14 attempts. Adams totaled 56 yards on 13 carries, and Pileggi hit on 10 of 16 throws for 109 yards.
