Baseball: Play in Pa. Independent Schools tournament suspended

Play in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools baseball tournament has been suspended due to rain.

On Saturday, in one semifinal, Malvern Prep topped Chestnut Hill Academy, 10-0, in five innings. The semifinal between Haverford School and Penn Charter was stopped in the bottom of the fourth due to the weather, with the Fords leading, 3-0.

Malvern and CHA played at Perkiomen School; Haverford School and Penn CHarter were playing at nearby Upper Perkiomen High.

The Haverford-Penn Charter semifinal, delayed several times because of lightning, will resume at 1 p.m. Sunday at Haverford School. That will be immediately followed, at the same site, by the championship game.

In Malvern Prep's win over CHA, senior righthander Joe Ravert, a La Salle commit, slammed a two-run homer in the first inning and added a three-run shot in a five-run second.

The Friars, ranked No. 1 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, improved to 30-5.
