Archbishop Carroll certainly looked like a state-championship contender in Tuesday night's PIAA Class AAA second-round tilt versus Octoara.

In a 71-50 romp at Coatesville High, the Patriots crashed the offensive glass early and often, sprinted to a 21-6 lead, and received solid performances from all five starters.

Yosef Yacob (20), Alec Stavetski (18) and Derrick Jones (15) combined for 53 points as Carroll clinched its third quarterfinal berth in four seasons.

Stavetski, a senior swingman, netted 14 of his points before halftime, including a trio of put-back baskets. The Patriots collected 10 offensive rebounds in the first 12 minutes.

Jones, a 6-foot-5 freshman forward, grabbed 14 rebounds (five on offense) and blocked four shots. Yacob, a junior and Division I recruit, dished four assists.

For the Braves, who shot 5 for 21 from the field in the first half, senior guard Charles Cooper scored 17 points, including four treys.

Senior forward Lou Domininque (10 points, six boards) and junior lead guard Isaiah Warren (four asissts) rounded out Carroll's starting lineup.

Overall, Carroll shot 25 for 54 (46.3 percent) from the field. It was 6 for 13 46.2 percent) from beyond the arc.

Next for the Patriots, Friday night at a neutral site and time to be determined, is District 7 runner-up Hampton, a 77-63 victor Tuesday over District 6 champ Greater Johnstown.
