La Salle defeated Roman Catholic, 16-6, to bring home its fourth straight Catholic League Class AAAA championship.

La Salle wins fourth straight title

With Matt Magarity and Sean Coleman hooking up for two scores and its defense forcing six turnovers, La Salle downed Roman Catholic, 16-6, Friday night at Northeast's Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium to secure the Catholic League Class AAAA championship.

It was the fourth straight league title for the Explorers, who overcome a poor offensive showing and two turnovers of their own.

Magarity found Coleman for scores of 61 and 27 yards. Ryan Winslow's 25-yard field goal with 3:32 to play clinched the victory. He had missed first-half tries tries of 32 and 21 yards.

Roman, trying for its first title since 2007, fumbled the ball away three times in the first half and once in the second. Chris Rocco and freshman Jimmy Herron intercepted second-half passes.

Magarity completed only 3 of 12 passes for 96 yards. Tailback Tim Wade, fresh off a 300-yard performance against Father Judge, was limited to 44 yards on 20 attempts.

Chris Cruz was back at QB for the Cahillites, again replacing starter Mike Kier, who only punted due to nerve issues in his throwing arm/hand.

Cruz was 11-for-24 passing for 109 yards. Tailback Marcus Kelly carried 20 times for 82 yards.

Recovering fumbles for La Salle were linemen David Losier and Andrew Eidenshink, linebacker Sean Burke, and cornerback Dad Poquie.

Next for La Salle (10-1) is the winner of Saturday afternoon's Public League final (4 p.m. at Northeast) between George Washington (7-2) and Frankford (7-2).
