Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Packers game

The Fast and the Furious Award: The Eagles offense

Here are the lengths of the Eagles' 28 TD drives this season, in terms of time of possession:

A few notes:

  1. They do not have a TD drive of over 4 minutes this season.

  2. They have 9 TD drives under a minute long.

  3. They have 17 TD drives under 2 minutes long.

  4. The average Eagles TD drive this season takes just 1:46.

Wow.

The Choke 'Em Out Award: The Eagles run game

Above, we noted the Eagles ability to score fast. But they can also bleed clock if they need to. The Eagles' final drive (9:32): Run, run, run, run, screen, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, kneel, kneel, kneel, ballgame.

Awesome.

On that final drive, the Packers' defensive linemen were dead tired. They were catching blocks instead of firing off the line at the snap. That's what Chip Kelly's fast paced offense will do. Credit Ron Jaworski, by the way, who called that. Prior to the game, Jaws said that the Eagles would wear down the Packers' bigger defensive linemen, and would dominate in the second half. Jaws was referring to BJ Raji (337 lbs), Ryan Pickett (338 lbs), and Johnny Jolly (325 lbs). Great insight by Jaws.

The Eagles most definitely dominated on that final drive that bled 9:32 off the clock, and could have bled more than that if needed.

Just Name Nick Foles the Starter Already.

I mean... the guy has a 132.5 QB rating. Who are we kidding at this point? And yeah, that's not even an award. Just do it.

The Ghost of JaMarcus Russell Award: Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzien

In the last 5 years, the Eagles have lost to the following QBs:

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tarvaris Jackson, John Skelton, Kevin Kolb, JaMarcus Russell, and Joe frickin' Webb. The Eagles avoided losing to another scrub QB, holding Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien and the Packers to 13 points.

The Andy Reid Just Threw Up in His Mouth Award: Chip Kelly

The Eagles passed 18 times, and ran it 37 times. They ran it on 67.3% of their plays.

The Big Play Award: The Chippah

Heading into this game, the Eagles had 53 plays of 20+ yards. That's just shy of 6 per game. The closest team in that category was the Broncos, who had 40. Against the Packers, I count 8 plays of over 20 yards, unofficially giving them 61. Still think the Eagles' offense is bottom 5 unit, Phil Simms?

The "Do We Have a Legit #2 WR?" Award: Riley Cooper

Last two games: 8 catches, 241 yards, 5 TD.

The Road Warrior Award: Every stadium other than the Linc

The Eagles are now 5-1 on the road.

The "Look Ma, the Eagles' Defense is Competent" Award: Billy Davis

In the first 5 games, the Eagles allowed 19 TDs.

In the last 5 games, the Eagles allowed 7 TDs.

Best Hugger: Vinny Curry

After Vinny Curry buried Scott Tolzien on a sack, he hugged the referee. This should be Curry's new official sack dance.
