The first security checkpoints go up

The first checkpoints are now in place as security perimeters start to go into effect for the weekend papal visit. The Benjamin Franklin Parkway event perimeter east of 20th Street is now open to screened pedestrians.

Here are some scenes from some of the first Philadelphians and visitors to encounter the checkpoints Friday morning:

There is a place just beyond the fence. That place is Starbucks. I just wanted a latte. I was told I needed security clearance. Maybe later, latte. #popepocalypse #popemageddon

I think I'm in the safest building in the city right now. Good work @tsa and @Phillypolice thanks for keeping us safe! #popeinphilly #popeadelphia #philadelphia
