Outside the gates, many ways to watch Mass

As thousands of pilgrims with tickets continued to wait on 21st Street and mass began, some residents emerged from their row home with a flat screen television on a small table.

Those in line erupted into applause shouting "thank you" and "that's so nice."

By the time the second reading began, the crowd could see and hear.

The chatter quieted. Some began to sing along as music began and choir sang "Alleluia" before the gospel reading.
