Two Lancaster children released from hospital after drinking tainted juice

The two Lancaster County children who reportedly drank a caustic substance during a birthday party at a restaurant have been released from the hospital.

Richie Zaragoza Jr., 10, was released March 16 from Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Ginaya Mercado, 4, was released over the weekend, PennLive reported.

The half-siblings had been hospitalized with severe burns of the mouth and throat since March 3 after they reportedly drank apple juice tainted with a caustic liquid at the Star Buffet & Grill in East Lampeter Township.

Preliminary test results show that apple juice alone did not burn the throats of the children, the site reported.

The restaurant was closed after nearly two dozen property code violations were filed, officials told PennLive.

East Lampeter Township police are continuing to investigate the incident.
