Bruce Springsteen is no fan of Donald Trump. In fact, New Jersey’s favorite son thinks the Republican presidential candidate is a “moron.”
Springsteen recently spoke with Rolling Stone ahead of the release of his Born to Run autobiography for an in-depth interview discussing the presidential race between Trump and Hillary Clinton. In an excerpt from that interview published this week, Springsteen made his decidedly negative feelings about Trump known.
“Well, you know, the republic is under siege by a moron, basically,” Springsteen told Rolling Stone. “The whole thing is tragic. Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy.”
The 67-year-old rocker also added that “Trump’s thing is simple answers to very complex problems,” which is appealing to voters who “want someone who says they have a solution.”
However, Springsteen says, Trump’s use of “white nationalism and the alt-right movement” during his campaign is pushing dangerous ideas into the mainstream.
When it comes to Clinton, however, Springsteen’s take was more supportive.
“I like Hillary,” he said. “I think she would be a very, very good president.”
Springsteen previously spoke about Trump while on a Swedish-Norwegian talk show known as Skavlan, calling Trump’s campaign a “great embarrassment if you’re an American.”
