Villa Maria wins third-straight PIAA title

Villa Maria's Sarah Hitchens and Emily Cornell finished second and third in the 100-yard backstroke on Thursday and the Hurricanes captured the 400 freestyle relay en route to a record-points total for their third-straight PIAA Class AA girls' swimming title at Bucknell University

Villa Maria's Sarah Hitchens and Emily Cornell finished second and third in the 100-yard backstroke on Thursday and the Hurricanes captured the 400 freestyle relay en route to a record-points total for their third-straight PIAA Class AA girls' swimming title at Bucknell University

Hitchens, a senior, finished the backstroke in 55.78 and the freshman Cornell finished two seconds behind. The relay team finished in a meet-record 3:28.90. Hitchens was joined by Molly O'Brien, Lauren Law and Julie Dobson.

The team totaled 237 points, 112 points ahead of second-place York Suburban.
