Upper Merion to induct three to Hall of Fame

Upper Merion will add three people to its athletic Hall of Fame at an induction ceremony on Friday, Jan. 18. The ceremony will happen during halftime of the home boys' basketball game against Norristown.

The honorees are Paul McKernan, Pete Straup and Kelly Crowe.

McKernan, of the class of 1949, played baseball, football and basketball. In his senior year, he was the leading scorer on the basketball team and pitched a no-hitter. He attended Temple on a football scholarship and played baseball there.

Straup, a 1966 graduate, played football and basketball and ran track. He gained more than 1,000 yards rushing in 1965 and was the captain of the basketball team. He ran track and played football at Juniata College, where he set a record for career interceptions.

A 2003 graduate, Kelly Crowe was first-team All-Suburban One in volleyball and basketball, winning three league titles during her volleyball career. Crowe went on to play at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where she became the school's all-time leading scorer.
