Strath Haven’s Jack Huemmler set a school record in the mile on Saturday afternoon with a second-place finish at the New Balance Games at the Armory in New York City.

Strath Haven’s Jack Huemmler set a school record in the mile on Saturday afternoon with a second-place finish at the New Balance Games at the Armory in New York City.

The senior finished in 4 minutes, 16.22 seconds. Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.) cruised to victory in 4:10.94.

The finish qualifies Huemmler for the Millrose Games, scheduled for Feb. 16 at the Armory.

Sara Sargent of Pennsbury completed the girls’ mile in 4:58.75 for second place and also qualified for the Millrose.
