St. Joe's Prep wins first state football title, 35-10, over Pittsburgh Central Catholic

Exploding for four second-half touchdowns, St. Joseph’s Prep buried District 7’s Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 35-10, to claim the program’s first PIAA Class AAAA state title Sunday night at HersheyPark Stadium.

With the Prep trailing by 14-10 at intermission, Chris Martin connected with wideout John Reid and tight end Joe DuMond for tallies of 59 and 14 yards. That was followed by scoring runs from D’Andre Swift (35 yards) and Vince Moffett (16).

In the first quarter, the Hawks (12-3) grabbed a 7-0 lead on Martin’s 27-yard pass over the middle to Moffett.

Central Catholic (15-1) evened things on J.J. Cosentino’s 1-yard keeper and took a 10-7 advantage on Mitchell MacZura’s 29-yard field goal late in the second quarter.

The Vikings lost Cosentino, a Florida State commit, to a left-leg injury in the third quarter.
