The running-back tandem of Wayne Brunson and Eric Johnson combined for three touchdowns and 204 rushing yards Friday, sending Southern to a 20-16 victory over Mastbaum in a Public League AAAA Silver football game at Northeast.
Brunson scored the Rams’ first two touchdowns, on runs of 46 and 8 yards, to give them a 14-8 lead in the first quarter. Johnson, the fullback, scored from 3 yards in the final quarter to widen the margin to 20-8.
The Panthers got within 20-16 with 25 seconds remaining when Kamal Taylor caught a 23-yard pass from Joseph Walker and Walker threw a two-point conversion pass to Frank Quiones.
Taylor finished with four catches for 69 yards and two TDs.
