Ahmad “J.R.” Gilbert, a 6-foot-5 guard from Constitution, added a scholarship offer on Thursday night from South Florida.

Two Bulls coaches watched Gilbert play Friday morning at the Reebok Classic Breakout at Philadelphia University. Gilbert, who will be a senior in the fall, is averaging 16.75 points and less than a turnover per game at the camp.

“I was going to bed when they offered,” said Gilbert. “It felt good.”

In Friday morning’s game, Gilbert showed off his keen ability to distribute the basketball. He heaved a one-handed pass down court to allow his teammate an easy basket. Gilbert dished a no-look bounce pass from perimeter to find a teammate streaking on the baseline. On a fast break, Gilbert baited a defender and tossed a pass to his right to give his teammate a layup.

“I only pass when I know it’s the right time or if it’s a smart pass,” said Gilbert. “I don’t like to force things.”
