Rush's Afferbach Rewarded for Record

Brittany Afferbach stepped into Rush's record books and received a shoe for it.

Afferbach scored twice Monday in a 6-1 win against visiting Washington, giving her 35 career goals and the school record.

The previous record holder, Chelsea Gault, attended the game and presented her with the right cleat with which she scored her 33d goal as a senior in 2011.

Rush is currently playing its seventh season.

Afferbach set the new record after she took a pass on the right wing and blasted it over the goalkeeper's hands. She scored on a breakaway later in the game.

"She is a natural forward," Rush coach Todd Corabi said. "When she doesn't kick it over the net, it usually goes in."

The two goals give Afferbach three on the season.
