Pottsgrove storms past Strath Haven
Rally Staff
Top-seeded Pottsgrove survived an early scare Friday night en route to a 32-14 win over visiting Strath Haven in the first round of the District 1 Class AAA football playoffs.
After eighth-seeded Strath Haven took a 7-0 lead on a short rush from Tevon Howie, Pottsgrove (11-0) answered with a 12-yard rushing touchdown by Tory Hudgins.
Hudgins, a quarterback, then put the Falcons ahead by 12-7 with a 10-yard pass to Jeff Adams.
But Strath Haven didn’t go away quietly, as Kevin Mohollen dashed for a 79-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half to put the Panthers ahead, 14-12.
Pottsgrove’s three touchdowns in the second half proved to be too much for Strath Haven. Among the three were two touchdowns from Hudgins. He rushed for a 3-yard score and again on a goal-line dive.
Nick Brennan’s 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter gave Pottsgrove a 20-14 lead.
With the win, the Falcons advance to meet No. 4 seed West Chester Henderson in the semifinals.
