La Salle High's Patrick Hoffman, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound two-way lineman, has made an oral commitment to play football for Navy.

The senior, a second-year starter who plays guard or tackle on offense and end on defense, chose the Midshipmen over Princeton and Harvard. "It's a big relief to have the whole recruiting process finished up," he said.

Hoffman is projected to play offensive tackle for Navy.

"The biggest factor for me had to be the brotherhood that exists at the service academies," the 17-year-old said. "It is completely unique to these schools, and you really can't find the same type of camaraderie at any other school."

Hoffman's father, also named Patrick, played offensive guard for Navy in the 1980s. He was a gridder (all-Bux-Mont center) and heavyweight wrestler at Wissahickon.

Navy has a triple-option scheme. "I'm happy with the fit and look forward to playing in a fast-paced offense," said Hoffman, of Collegeville.
