Lafayette field hockey coaches were among the crowd on Tuesday night at Garnet Valley.
They came to get a look at Jaguars junior goalie Hailey Valerio, who is also garnering interest from Penn.
Her coach, Erin Fidler, called her and teammate Katie Keyser "smart cookies." They're among the nation's top recruits, and the schools they are considering are among the academic elite. Keyser has interest from Stanford, Penn and Lafayette.
"And that's what makes them so good," Fidler said after her team topped Central Bucks East, 4-3. "They're so smart and they know the game so well. They make my job easy."
Valerio recorded six saves and Keyser scored twice. The senior left forward scored the game winner with 3:56 left in the second half off Shivani Chinnappan's rebound. The Jaguars are off to a 2-0 start and Fidler expects big things this season.
Fidler said she has purposely scheduled tougher opponents, such as C.B. East, in order to earn more sway when playoff seeds are determined. Sounds like the coach is pretty smart too.
