Jake Silpe said he knew there were 30 seconds left in his team’s Friday afternoon game at the Reebok Classic Breakout.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Cherry Hill East took his time at the top of the key. His team trailed by a point at the Philadelphia University camp. Silpe wanted to make the “right pass at the right time,” he said.  He found a teammate open on the low block and bounced a crafty pass around a defender. His teammate misfired, but another secured the rebound for the game-winning basket.

“I’m trying to be a floor general. I want to lead the team,” he said.

Silpe will be a senior this fall and his play at this week’s event has garnered attention. He said Rutgers and Iowa have both showed interest this week and he already holds offers from Penn, Princeton, and others. He said he will visit schools in August and September and make his decision before the start of the season.
