Friday night will mark the first true City Title Game since 1980 as Public League boys' basketball champion Imhotep Charter plays Catholic League champion Neumann-Goretti at 8:30 at St. Joseph's University.
The two leagues disbanded the game following the 1979-1980 season. After the Catholic League joined the PIAA in 2009 (the Public League did so in 2004-2005), the District 12 title games were put in place to determine seedings for the state tournament. Since these games are based on enrollment classification (AA, AAA, AAAA), the Public League and Catholic League champions had not met in the four years.
Along with the City Title, the team's will play for District 12's top seed in the PIAA Class AAA tournament. The first round begins March 8.
