The West Chester Henderson boys’ swim team is off to a 5-0 start, but veteran coach Jeff Bott isn’t about to say whether the Warriors can match last year’s showing. Last season, the Warriors went on to win the District 1 Class AAA championship and take fifth place at the PIAA championships.
“It’s tough to tell at this point,” Bott said. “There’s still a lot of the season left. We have some experience but the question is can we stay healthy.”
Among the veterans returning are Dave McCormick, Andrew Kosic, Parker Baisden, John Maza and Tom McMann. With such a versatile group, things would appear promising. Kosic is an all-around swimmer, while McCormick concentrates on the breaststroke and individual medley. Baisden is the team’s long distance man. Maza is a sprinter and McMann is being counted on in the butterfly and IM. One big reason for the Warriors’ success last season was their 200-yard freestyle relay team that won gold at districts.
Among Henderson’s dual meet wins this season is a 15-point triumph over Pennsbury, a perennial Suburban One League National Division power.
