Germantown Academy runners take top spots at Inter-Ac Cross Country Championships

Germantown Academy runners swept the individual titles of the Inter-Ac Cross-Country Championships at Belmont Plateau on Monday.

Junior Sam Ritz, runner up last season, led the way in a time of 16 minutes, 2 seconds. Led by the Hoey brothers, Malvern Prep claimed five of the top seven spots to earn the overall team title. Jaxson Hoey was second in 16:04.6; Josh Hoey was forth in 16:50.8. Scott Mason of Penn Charter placed third in 16:44.3.

Freshman Abigail Goldstein finished the 3.1-mile course in 19:46.2 to beat last year’s champ, Jamie Costarino of Springside Chestnut Hill. Costarino’s time was 20:21.9. Alexis Malmberg of Episcopal Academy was third in 20:29.6, followed by teammate Katerine Hong in 20:36.7. Terri Turner of Springside Chestnut Hill was fifth.

Germantown Academy won the girls’ team title, placing five runners in the top 15.

Top 10: 1. Sam Ritz, Germantown Academy, 16:02.9; 2. Jaxson Hoey, Malvern Prep, 16:04.6; 3. Scott Mason, Penn Charter, 16:44.3; 4. Josh Hoey, Malvern Prep, 16:44.3; 5.
