Freshman wins a district golf title

Freshman Steve Cerbara of Holy Ghost Prep shot his second consecutive 1-under-par 71 over 18 holes to win the PIAA Class AAA District 1 boys’ golf title Wednesday at Turtle Creek Golf Club in Limerick.

Freshman Steve Cerbara of Holy Ghost Prep shot his second consecutive 1-under-par 71 over 18 holes to win the PIAA Class AAA District 1 boys’ golf title Wednesday at Turtle Creek Golf Club in Limerick.

Cerbara shot 35-36 to finish with a two-day total of 142 and secure a 2-shot win over Stewart Rickenbach of Central Bucks East.

New Hope-Solebury’s Mike Massimino won the Class AA district title with a 148.

In girls’ play, Mount St. Joseph sophomore Isabella Dilisio (137) captured the Class AAA tournament, and Villa Maria’s Cara Basso (164) took AA honors.

In AAA boys, Council Rock North recorded a score of 300 to take the team title. Zach Herr’s 73 was one of three sub-80 rounds for the Indians. Holy Ghost Prep (308) and Pennsbury (309) rounded out the top three.

New Hope-Solebury, which had three of the top four finishers, took the Class AA team title with a 331.

Radnor’s girls edged Mount St. Joseph by 4 strokes to take the Class AAA team championship with a 310 score. Merion Mercy (365) finished third.

In the AA field, Villa Maria grabbed the top spot by shooting 370.
