Delran holds off Bordentown, 23-20

Delran burst out to a 16-point lead in the second quarter Friday night and then held off Bordentown for a 23-20 victory in a West Jersey Football League Liberty Division game.

Delran burst out to a 16-point lead in the second quarter Friday night and then held off Bordentown for a 23-20 victory in a West Jersey Football League Liberty Division game.

In the matchup of previously unbeaten teams, Delran improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty.

Host Bordentown dropped to 2-1 and 1-1.

Delran quarterback Justin McFadden scored on a 3-yard run and added the extra point to give the Bears a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Khalil Thomas caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from McFadden to make the score 13-0, and McFadden kicked a 40-yard field goal to put Delran up, 16-0.

Najee Shabazz caught a 31-yard TD pass from Nick Bartolomei to move the Scotties within 16-6 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Jahmire Vankline reach the end zone on an 8-yard run to close the Bordentown deficit to 16-12.

Delran came back, getting a 4-yard scoring run from Mark Jukic and McFadden’s PAT to expand the advantage to 23-12.

The Scotties’ Jordan Kelso provided the only touchdown of the final quarter, catching a 6-yard pass from Bartolomei. Vankline ran in the two-point conversion to complete the scoring.
