Central Bucks West brought Archbishop Ryan’s unbeaten season to a screeching halt Tuesday, scoring a goal in the second half to defeat the Ragdolls, 1-0, in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA state girls’ soccer playoffs.
Zoe Traficante scored with 28 minutes remaining in regulation to lift C.B. West into the quarterfinals, in which it will play Neshaminy — for the second time in eight days — on Saturday. Kelsey Horst earned the assist.
Horst came down the right wing and sent the ball to the far post, where Traficante slammed it into the net.
West, the fourth seed from District 1 in the state tournament, improved to 13-6-2. Archbishop Ryan, which came in as the District 12 champion, fell to 19-1-3.
Kalin Ojert played well on defense for C.B. West, which was ranked seventh in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer through Monday’s action, one slot below the Ragdolls.
Ryan entered the game having defeated Lansdale Catholic, 3-1, in the Catholic League final and Franklin Towne Charter, 7-1, in the District 12 championship game.
The only blemish on the Ragdolls’ record before Tuesday was a 1-1 tie with Archbishop Wood in a league game Oct. 11.
In its previous game, West lost to Neshaminy in the District 1 third-place game, 2-1, Saturday.
