Bartram's Evariste a champion twice at Palmer Classic

Gerald Evariste scored nine points as Bartram knocked off Audenried, 68-54, in the championship game of the Walter D. Palmer Winter Basketball Classic at West Philadelphia on Sunday.

Then the real fun began.

Evariste, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, was the last man standing to claim the title in the post-tournament slam dunk contest. After his opponent missed a dunk in the final round, Evariste put down an easy slam to seal the victory.

Tournament MVP Khayri Washington scored 20 for Bartram in the victory. Raul McIlwain added 19.

Audenried's Devon Jacobs scored 17, and Qaadir Nock, the tournament's sportsmanship award winner, added 14.

Girard College beat World Communications, 71-57, in the third place game and Palmer downed West Philadelphia, 61-55, for fifth place.

The three-day tournament was played for the second time. Lincoln Park from Western Pennsylvania won the title last season.
