Archbishop Wood started its boys’ soccer season on a historic note Tuesday.
The school’s first win in 2013, a 4-0 win at Cheltenham, was coach Joe Krantz’s 400th career win.
Despite waiting almost a full year, the 35th-year coach was not anxious to achieve the milestone.
“I figured with with 20-something games I would get it sooner or later,” said Krantz, who just started his 35th season at Wood.
Someone hung a congratulatory banner that his players took after the game and a Gatorade shower had to be prevented due to the bus ride back to school.
“I still enjoy it,” Krantz said. “I’ve had pretty much the same assistants. The competition is good in the league. We like to beat their brains in, but we’re friends off the field.
“I never thought I’d be here for 400 wins.”
Kyle Joyce and Nick Sonsini each had a goal and an assist in the win and Ryan Hemsley made four saves to earn the shutout.
