PIAA Girls AAAA State Basketball Title, FINAL: Mount Lebanon 70, Archbishop Ryan 43

Archbishop Ryan became the second girls’ District 12 Class AAAA team to reach the state finals in as many seasons this spring. But last night at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center, the Ragdolls suffered the same fate as Cardinal O’Hara a year ago. Mount Lebanon, the District 7 one-seed, repeated as state champs with a 70-43 win over Ryan (22-8), the District 12 champion. Blue Devils 5-foot-11 junior guard Madison Cable turned in a dominant performance with a game-high 30 points. Cable shot 13-of-19 from the field and added eight rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks. Ryan senior forward Jess Koci led the Ragdolls with 14 points, and senior guard Lauren Smith added 13. But Ryan committed 24 team turnovers, including 12 in the third quarter when Mount Lebanon morphed a 30-20 halftime lead into a 54-30 advantage. 1 2 3 4 F Archbishop Ryan 8 12 10 13 43 Mount Lebanon 13 17 24 16 70 AR: Jess Koci 14, Sarah Strybuc 1, Lauren Smith 13, Brittany Wood 6, Lauren Heisse 3, Rachel Kelly 2, Megan Wolf 4.
