On the roster Northeast submitted for the Public League Class AAA boys' soccer final Wednesday, there were two positions crossed off next to Jorge Chavez's name and a 'G' hastily scribbled on the page in pencil.
Chavez, a junior, began the season as a center halfback. But after a back injury to Northeast's starting goalie in a quarterfinal playoff win, Chavez took over in net. He'd been asking coach Sam Feldman for the chance for a while.
So far, so good.
Archbishop Ryan captured the Catholic League girls' soccer title with a 3-1 win over visiting Lansdale Catholic.
Kaitlyn McFadden, Brittany Robinson and Scarlet Walsh scored for the Ragdolls.

Andy Jean Pierre scored with 14 minutes left and Northeast held on to edge Franklin Towne Charter, 1-0, in the Public League AAA boys' final.
The goal was Jean Pierre's 20th of the season. It's the Vikings first title since 2007 and head coach Sam Feldman will retire after the season.
Rescheduled Games in Week 9
Saturday, Nov. 3
Father Judge and La Salle will meet on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Archbishop Ryan in the Catholic League boys' soccer final.
The game was moved from Tuesday at Ryan to Wednesday at William Tennent before being moved again to Thursday at Tennent. Now, it's back to Ryan.
La Salle won last year's final, beating Judge. The Crusaders last won a league crown in 2009.
La Salle High football coach Drew Gordon visited the Explorers' grass practice field Tuesday afternoon, checking on its post-Hurricane Sandy condition.
"It's a mess," he said. "It'd be dangerous to practice on it. You'd have to worry about players getting injured, maybe pulling a muscle or something like that. It'd be hard for the kids to get their cleats in the ground."
After seeing the field, soaked by rain and covered with leaves, Gordon was seeking alternatives for Wednesday's practice. La Salle, like other Philadelphia-area high schools, was closed Monday and Tuesday due to the storm.
The Public League boys' and girls' soccer championship games, both at Northeast High's Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium, have been moved to Wednesday.
The 3 p.m. boys' final will pit Franklin Towne Charter against Northeast. At about 5 p.m., in the girls' final, Franklin Towne Charter will take on Central.
The Catholic League boys' soccer final between Father Judge and La Salle has been moved to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at William Tennent High.
The girls' game between Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Ryan remains scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at William Tennent.
