Gateway’s Anthony Colofranson is one goal from 100 in his high school soccer career after scoring four in Friday’s 5-1 win over visiting Overbrook.

Colofranson has 27 goals this season for the 7-2 Gators. He will attempt to hit the century mark in Saturday’s home matchup with GCIT.

“Getting 100 will be a pretty big deal,”Colofranson said. “The main thing is challenging for a South Jersey title."

Farewell South Jersey athletes, coaches, parents, fellow writers and others who have made my five years, five months of covering sports full-time in the area a memorable and enriching experience.

After today, I no longer will be a staff writer for The Inquirer. It's time for me to move on. I have a project that will keep me busy for a year or more and it will occupy most of my time.

The rest of the time? You might see my by-line like this: By Bill Iezzi, For The Inquirer. I'd like that. Hope you do, too.

If the Haddon Heights boys' soccer team can win its next six games, it will have given head coach Jeff Eppright a significant accomplishment: 300 victories in a carreer that spans 24 years.

The Garnets are 2-1-1 and in their last game they defeated arch rival Haddonfield, 2-0, a confidence builder.

If they are able to run the table against West Deptford, Overbrook, Audubon, Collingswood, Sterling and Highland, Eppright will have his milestone on Oct. 10 at Haddon Heights. - Bill Iezzi

Which school has the best football field in South Jersey?

Field. Not stadium. Not complex.

And we're not talking history here. This isn't about tradition.

Brian Whitman scored with 3 minutes, 12 seconds left in the second half, wrapping up Haddon Heights’ 2-1 Colonial Conference interdivision thriller over visiting Haddon Township (9-2).
Heights (8-1-1) led by 1-0 at halftime on Austin McCleary’s goal, and Township knotted the score after halftime with a goal by Nick DellaValle. Whitman’s game-winner was a 12-yard shot after an assist by John Hagerty.
Goals in the first half by Paden Dietrich, Daulton Law and Chris Steiner were enough for Overbrook to hang on for a 3-2 win at Lindenwold. The Lions’ Orlando Askie scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season.

Olympic.

Brian Reynolds’ goal with just 1:10 left was all the offense Shawnee needed to subdue visiting Cherry Hill East, 1-0. Renegades goalie Mike Hartman made nine saves.
