The PIAA has issued more information for Saturday's second round state soccer quarterfinals. Here's where the local teams left will be:

Before the rankings, a public service announcement: When the brackets come out on Sunday, we'll post our AAA picks, game-by-game here on the Rally blog for both the girls' and boys' tournament. And I'll have the A and AA champs picked.

Echoing what I said in the boys' post: I appreciate all the comments and e-mails from last week's rankings. I hope we can get the pot stirring again as the playoffs begin.

The news of District 1's ruling of a forfeit against Villa Joseph Marie girls' soccer is all covered here. But a few more thoughts before we finally put this controversy to bed...

Mainly, what this all boils down to is a series of unfortunate events. Consider:

-- Strath Haven usually has a certified athletic trainer at every event. This time, there was none because the trainer was attending a funeral for his grandmother.

District One officials are still gathering information and a decision has yet to be made regarding the status of Monday's suspended girls' soccer game between Villa Joseph Marie and Strath Haven.

Bob Ruoff, chairman of District One, said he is still awaiting statements from the officials at the game and representatives from both schools. 

Ruoff said he expects to make a decision early next week.

Jordan O’Reilly scored twice for host Upper Dublin in a 3-3 tie with Cape Henlopen (Del.), in a game tied to a charity fund-raiser, Susan G. Komen Play For the Cure.

So far, the Upper Dublin girls have raised $4,500.

Sisters Erin Gallagher, a senior, and Kelliann, a freshman, scored five minutes apart in the second half to give Academy Park a 2-1 win at Lower Merion.

Avery Curley helped Episcopal Academy open up the Inter-Ac League portion of its schedule on a strong note by scoring three goals in a 6-0 win over visiting Germantown Academy.
Curley also added an assist for the Churchwomen (3-4 overall, 1-0 league).

Penn Charter got a pair of second-half goals to break a tie and win, 4-2, at Springside. Dani Bembry, Grace McInerney, Ali Rosen, and Allison Thompson scored for the Quakers.
Katie Gerzabek scored half of Notre Dame’s goals in an 8-1 win over visiting Agnes Irwin.

Lauren Heisse’s goal two minutes into overtime gave Archbishop Ryan a 2-1 Catholic League win at Archbishop Carroll. Kerri Ritter assisted on two goals for the Ragdolls (6-2-1 overall, 5-2 league), including one by Michelle Saklad 12 minutes into the second half. Julia Stipa scored for the Patriots.

Jenna Richards scored both goals as host Conwell-Egan topped St. Hubert, 2-0. Kelly Mott had seven saves for the Eagles.

Kerri McClay scored once and assisted twice for host Archbishop Wood in a 4-0 win over Lansdale Catholic.

Central League

Lower Merion freshman Moira Petrie put her head to good use and led the Aces to a 2-1 win over host Haverford High in a Central League girls’ soccer game yesterday.
With two minutes left in the game, Petrie, a center forward, put her head on the ball inside the box and sent it into the net.
Melissa Scanzano gave the Fords a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Carly Icnniowski tied the game for Lower Merion in the second half.


Michaela Whitelaw scored in the 35th minute to give Strath Haven a 2-1 win over visiting Ridley. Victoria Batter gave the Green Raiders a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but Gina DiTaranto tied the game for the Panthers a minute later.
