Felicia O’Donnell took second place in the girls’ race and Brady Deckert was third in the boys’ competition, helping Delsea sweep the Division 2 team titles on its home course Saturday in the South Jersey Open cross-country championships.

The Crusaders posted 39 points in the girls’ event, which was won individually by Holy Spirit’s Emily Casey.

St. Augustine’s Philip Fanz crossed the finish line first in the boys’ meet in 16 minutes, 9 seconds, the fastest winning time among the three boys’ races.

The last time te two teams met, the Spartans nipped host St. Joseph, 2-1, in a Cape-Atlantic League National Division II game.

While Kaitlyn Lucca was singing the National Anthem at Bill Bendig Field this afternoon, a small airplane flew around the gridiron with a sign flapping behind it.

The sign read: "Holy Spirit football Chapher II - The Roman Empire."

Some sideline folks associated with St. Joseph football took it to mean that their Wildcats were the Roman Empire and Holy Spirit was announcing a takeover.

Delsea senior running back Austin Medley leads South Jersey in touchdowns with nine.

Medley ran for 290 yards and scored five TDs in the Crusaders' 56-15 victory over Gloucester Catholic Saturday.

Washington Township junior quarterback Nick Valori leads South Jersey with nine touchdown passes. Valori threw for five in the Minutemen's 41-3 victory over Rancocas Valley on Friday night.

Jenna O’Sullivan and Amanda Wozniak personally made sure that the Timber Creek field hockey team would not go winless this season.

O’Sullivan collected a pair of goals off assists from Wozniak in the first half and led the Chargers past visiting Winslow Township, 2-0, in an Olympic Conference game.

Stephanie Mullica also had a big hand in the victory, stopping four shots to keep the Eagles out of the cage.

Here is the Friday football roundup

Washington Township went to the air against visiting Rancocas Valley and Nick Valori’s passing led the Minutemen to a 41-7 Burlco/Olympic American Division win.
Valori completed 30 of 34 passes for 236 yards and five touchdowns as part of Township’s (3-0 overall, 2-0 division) 493 yards of total offense.
Adam Marcucci caught eight passes and scored twice, and when Township moved on the ground, Charlie Huff gained 106 yards rushing, including an 18-yard run for the game’s first TD.

Shawnee 31, Moorestown 6— Shawnee (1-2, 1-1) spotted visiting Moorestown (1-2, 0-2) a 6-0 lead before rallying in the Liberty Division matchup to win its first game.
Ed Royds scored on runs of 17 and 19 yards, and Ben Schwing also had a pair of TDs covering 2 and 70 yards.
Brian Garganio was 4 for 4 on conversion kicks and finished the game’s scoring with a 37-yard field goal.

Second-half goals by Courtney Branco and Allison Pennypacker rallied Clearview to a 2-1 win over Haddon Township in the semifinals of the Madelyn Chiomento Tournament at Pitman.
The host Panthers edged Cherry Hill West, 2-1, in the first game of the doubleheader and advanced to today’s 2 p.m. final.

Olympic.

 Devon Ryan snapped a scoreless tie with a goal from Courtney Ches 13 minutes into the second half as Triton clipped visiting Cherry Hill East, 1-0.

Holy Spirit upended a pair of top seeds to capture the singles and doubles titles at the Cape-Atlantic League championships at Vineland.
The Spartans’ Adrienne Kaye battled past Bushra Memon of Atlantic City, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, to take the individual crown. The doubles title went to the Holy Spirit tandem of Kelsey Frost and Danielle Casarra, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) winners over Erin Hanlon and Lillian Stellitano of Mainland.
