Frank Sciolla, formerly at Bristol and Pennsbury, has been named head boys’ basketball coach at Conwell-Egan.
He spent the last two seasons at Bristol, recording his 300th career victory early in the 2012-13 campaign.
In 15 seasons at Pennsbury, Sciolla compiled a 280-136 record (.673 winning percentage) and won seven Suburban One League championships, including five in undefeated fashion.

After a year experimenting with a condensed playoff format, the Catholic League will expand it this time around in the name of fairness.
In the first season as a part of the PIAA, the Catholic League played an eight-team league tournament last year, with six teams advancing from the Red Division and two from the Blue.
This year, 12 teams will make the tournament — six from each division. Play begins Monday.
Kristine Visco’s goal with 15 minutes left in the second half gave host Archbishop Ryan a 1-0 Catholic League win over Conwell-Egan.
Tori Veoli scored twice for host St. Hubert in a 5-0 win over Little Flower. Julia Delong, Ann McCrane and Katie McFadden also scored.

Joe Bozzelli proved to be the difference for Cardinal Dougherty in a football win on Saturday night and yesterday made the same kind of difference in a 2-1 Catholic League Blue Division soccer win at Neumann-Goretti.Bozzelli hit a blast from 20 yards out that rocketed off the post and into the net to break a 1-1 tie with 15 minutes left.
Bozzelli, whose two extra points gave made the difference in a 14-12 win over Kennedy-Kenrick Saturday, capped a comeback that saw the Cardinals (2-9 overall, 2-7 league) rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit.
Colin Strapp’s goal tied it early in the second half before Bozzelli won it.

Archbishop Ryan broke open a close game with four second-half goals in a 6-1 win at Monsignor Bonner. The Raiders (8-3-2, 4-3-2) got a pair of goals from Dan Panepresso and single goals from Nick Ferry, Pat Hazelbarth, Kevin Mack and Tim Stahl.

Gwynedd-Mercy Academy needed a second-half goal by Morgan Sheridan to break a tie and win, 1-0, over visiting St. Basil in an Athletic Association of Catholic Academies soccer game Tuesday.
Goalie Courtney Sullivan, a freshman, prevented the Panthers from getting the equalizer by turning back all nine shots she faced. It was Sullivan’s fourth shutout of the season.

Conwell-Egan’s Bill Castor found the range in spite of a fierce Lansdale Catholic defense and helped the Eagles come from behind to earn a dramatic Catholic League Blue Division soccer win at the United German Hungarian Club in Oakford Monday.
Castor scored from 19 yards out with a minute left to give Conwell-Egan a 2-1 victory. As a result, the Eagles (8-2-2 overall, 7-2-1 league) moved past the Crusaders (6-4-1, 6-3-1) into second place in the division.
Sean Rooney gave Lansdale Catholic a 1-0 lead in the first half, but John Richards tied the game when he converted a goal from 55 yards out. Mike Keenan stopped 22 shots to earn the win in goal for the Eagles while Crusaders’ goalie Chris Takemori turned aside 15 shots.
