Avery Safford saved her best game for when her team needed it most, scoring all three goals as Shipley beat host Baldwin, 3-2, in a nonleague battle of field hockey unbeatens.
Safford has seven goals and three assists on the season and her third goal, all in the first half, gave the Gators (7-0) a 3-0 lead.
The Bears (3-1-2) came roaring back to make it a game on goals by Brooke Simone and Nicole Wells, but the Gators’ defense prevented the equalizer.

Public

 Central needed overtime to beat visiting Franklin Towne Charter on Tuesday. Wednesday, the Lancers traveled to Franklin Towne Charter and had a much easier time, coming away with a 3-0 win.
Talia Fish, who had a pair of assists in a 2-1 overtime win on Tuesday, scored one of the three goals Wednesday.
The Lancers also got goals from Robyn Freedman and Genna Kachur.

Phil-Mont Christian rallied for three second-half goals, two by Soraya Toppin, to beat visiting Germantown Friends, 5-3, in a nonleague game.
Toppin finished with three goals on the afternoon. Also contributing for the Falcons (8-2) was Madeline Romig, who had a goal and two assists.


Interboro’s Dana Froio had a hat trick in an 8-1 win over visiting Academy of the New Church.


Camy Anderson scored twice for host Friends Select in a 4-0 win over Girard College.

Lauren Heisse’s goal two minutes into overtime gave Archbishop Ryan a 2-1 Catholic League win at Archbishop Carroll. Kerri Ritter assisted on two goals for the Ragdolls (6-2-1 overall, 5-2 league), including one by Michelle Saklad 12 minutes into the second half. Julia Stipa scored for the Patriots.

Jenna Richards scored both goals as host Conwell-Egan topped St. Hubert, 2-0. Kelly Mott had seven saves for the Eagles.

Kerri McClay scored once and assisted twice for host Archbishop Wood in a 4-0 win over Lansdale Catholic.

Becky Donkin and Samantha Bartow assisted on each other’s goals and Maggie Smith added an unassisted goal to beat visiting Academy Park, 3-0, in a nonleague game to keep Ridley unbeaten.

The Green Raiders (10-0) got an active game in goal from Meghan Pitts, who rejected the 12 shots she faced.

Catholic League. Seven players scored for Conwell-Egan, six in the second half, to beat host West Catholic, 7-1.

Emmett Filipelli scored twice and Pat Hanna added a pair of assists for Archbishop Carroll in a 5-0 win at Neumann-Goretti.

Katie Buohl, Corey Meanix, and Devin Simpson scored two goals apiece for host Octorara in a 13-0 Ches-Mont League win over Oxford.

The Braves led, 9-0, at the half.

Catholic Academies. Emily Waschenko scored and her sister, Tori, assisted in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-1 win over visiting Merion Mercy. Erin Casey and Maria Fabrizio also scored.

Archbishop Ryan pushed up stopper Mark Vogelman into the attack area and the move paid off in a 1-0 Catholic League win over visiting Archbishop Wood. Vogelman made the most of a free ball 25 yards away from the goal and blasted a hard shot that found the net with 10 minutes left.

The Raiders (6-2-1 overall, 2-2-1 league) also played good defense in front of goalie Kyle Murphy, who needed to make only four saves for the shutout.

Darius Madison scored twice as La Salle topped visiting Roman Catholic, 3-0.

Central League

Lower Merion freshman Moira Petrie put her head to good use and led the Aces to a 2-1 win over host Haverford High in a Central League girls’ soccer game yesterday.
With two minutes left in the game, Petrie, a center forward, put her head on the ball inside the box and sent it into the net.
Melissa Scanzano gave the Fords a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Carly Icnniowski tied the game for Lower Merion in the second half.


Michaela Whitelaw scored in the 35th minute to give Strath Haven a 2-1 win over visiting Ridley. Victoria Batter gave the Green Raiders a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but Gina DiTaranto tied the game for the Panthers a minute later.

It was Maura Gifford’s birthday, but Lansdale Catholic’s soccer team was doing the receiving and not the giving.
Gifford’s goal in the game’s 74th minute clinched the 2-0 nonleague win at rival Gwynedd-Mercy.
Most of the game was a scoreless tie until the 67th minute when freshman Hannah Whitby scored.
Seven minutes later, Gifford, a senior, put the game away with the insurance goal.


Kelly McGlynn scored 20 minutes into the first half for the game-winner in Abington Friends’ 2-0 win at Bishop McDevitt.
The Kangaroos got a second-half insurance goal from Robyn Harding.
